1.6 Trammel Points

Considerations

  • Pre-Operation Checklist is a prerequisite for ANY operation.
  • This standard applies to a pair of standard points and a beam commonly found in a shop.
  • Tools are in working condition, capable of being properly verified for accuracy.
  • Test examples are of appropriate size to be measured using the available tools.

Pre-Operation Checklist

Performance Standard -

Level 1

  • Adjustment screw is clean, lubricated, and capable of tightly locking the head of the point to the beam.
  • Verifies head slides freely and is beam is straight, without any discernible nicks or defects.
  • Releases pressure on beam when making adjustments.

Level 2 - N/A


1.6.1 - Mark Circular Line

Level 1

Given appropriate wood or panel product and points set up, ready to mark, inscribe a circular line segment at least 75 mm [3 in.] long equidistant from the center point which is a minimum of 255 mm [10 in.] away.
Performance Standard -
  • Mark is clear and readable for full length
  • Mark is a true, single line
  • Dimension indicated by mark is consistent from the center point +0.0/-0.1 mm [0.004 in]

Level 2

Given appropriate wood or panel product, set up marking gauge to inscribe the circular line segment specified.
  • Meets Level 1 performance standard.
