2.12 Vertical Panel Saw

Considerations

  • Pre-Operation Checklist is a prerequisite for ANY operation.
  • Blade is brought through the cut in a controlled, smooth, continuous motion while controlling stock movement and waste removal.
  • Stock is supported.
  • Arms not crossed in front of the blade.
  • Blade permitted to come to a complete stop before removing material.
  • Proper stance and hand position are demonstrated.
  • Stock is held securely against the fence, miter gauge, or fixture as appropriate.
  • Clears machine and cleans work area after operation.
  • Required OSHA approved personal protective equipment is worn.
  • Lock-out/Tag-out procedure is in place and followed.
  • Process is completed in a timely manner.

Pre-Operation Checklist

Level 1

  • Verifies blade guard is functioning properly.
  • Confirms blade is installed securely.
  • Confirms dust collection is connected, operating, and free to move with saw.
  • Ensures carriage/support is free of obstruction in both directions.
  • Verifies ample clearance for material movement in both directions.

Level 2

  • Calibrates stops (if equipped).
  • Verifies/adjusts miter/bevel scales, ensuring they are properly calibrated.
  • Meets Level 1 performance standard.

2.12.1 - 90º Cross Cut

Level 1

Given material and machine set up and ready to operate, crosscut panel vertically to a specified dimension greater than 24" [600 mm].
Performance Standard -
  • Dimension tolerance of ±.0.4 mm (1/64”) [0.0156”].
  • Cut is exactly 90º as measured by a square, both across and vertical.
  • Cut is 90º to the face of the material.
  • Cut surfaces exhibit uniform saw marks without burn or defects.

Level 2

Given material and machine, select proper material and set up to crosscut panel vertically to a specified dimension greater than 24" [600 mm].
Performance Standard -
  • Correct blade installed.
  • Correct material selected.
  • Stops or fixture set correctly.
  • Meets Level 1 performance standard.

2.12.2 - 90º Horizontal Cut

Level 1

Given material and machine set up and ready to operate, cut panel horizontally to a specified fixed dimension greater than 24" [600 mm], by moving material through a fixed saw setting.

Level 2

Given material and machine, select proper material and set up to cut panel horizontally to a specified fixed dimension greater than 24" [600 mm].
Performance Standard -
  • Correct blade installed.
  • Correct material selected.
  • Stops or fixture set correctly.
  • Meets Level 1 performance standard.
