7.15 Flapper Sander

Considerations

  • Pre-Operation Checklist is a prerequisite for ANY operation.
  • Abrasives and carrier is correctly installed on the spindle.
  • Abrasive sleeve is correctly installed on the carrier.
  • Abrasive sleeve has no defects such as tears, holes, or foreign material build up.
  • Operator uses proper pressure and speed to sand part.
  • Required OSHA approved personal protective equipment is worn.
  • Lock-out/Tag-out procedure is in place and followed.
  • Process is completed in a timely manner.

Pre-Operation Checklist

Level 1

  • Demonstrates knowledge of and proper use of all machine specific controls.
  • Verifies carrier is installed correctly and locked.
  • Verifies carrier is rotating freely and in proper direction.
  • Verifies dust collection is positioned and working properly.
  • Verifies work area is clean, organized and free from hazards.

Level 2

  • Selects and installs proper abrasive sleeve.
  • Cleans and/or installs proper abrasive type and grit.
  • Meets Level 1 performance standard.

7.15.1 - Sand a Curved Contour

Level 1

Given a Flapper Sander set up with the proper abrasive sleeve, properly secured, sand a curved contour traced from a template.
Performance Standard
  • Selects proper surface to be sanded.
  • Surface of edge follows shape of contour within +.015"/-0" of layout.
  • Surface of edge is free of burn marks.
  • Surface of edge is free of "dips" or "divots".

Level 2

Given a Flapper Sander install the proper abrasive sleeve and secure for use in proper rotation. Sand a curved contour traced from a template.
Performance Standard
  • Meets Level 1 Performance Standard.
