11.4 Hand File

Considerations

  • Pre-Operation Checklist is a prerequisite for ANY operation.
  • Required OSHA approved personal protective equipment is worn.
  • Tool is in sound working condition, free of cracks and chips.
  • Stock is supported and secured from movement.
  • Appropriate stance and hand control are utilized for optimum balance and part control.
  • Process is completed in a timely manner.

Pre-Operation Checklist

Level 1

  • Proper tool is selected for task.
  • File teeth are inspected and cleared of residue (pinning).
  • Tool is inspected for chips gouges and cracks that may impede performance.
  • Tooth cut is inspected for proper sharpness prior to commencing operation.
  • File is only engaged in the direction of the cut, and not back drug.

Level 2

11.4.1 - File laminate edges

Level 1

Given tool and material set up and ready, trim (file) remaining overhang of laminate edging.
Performance Standard -
  • Excess material is removed completely to a flush condition across the entire edge.
  • No file-through of adjacent material is evident.
  • Weather square or beveled, angle of cut is consistent across the entire edge.

Level 2

11.4.2 - Rasp and clean a [25mm] (1") hole to lay out

Level 1

Given tools and material set up and ready, rasp, then file a pre-determined hole in solid or panel stock.
Performance Standard -
  • Final cut is within ±0.4 mm (1/64") [0.0156"]/-0 of lay out.
  • Entrance and exit sides of cut out show no chip out.
