5.6 CNC Double End Tenoner

Considerations

  • Pre-Operation Checklist is a prerequisite for ANY operation.
  • All cutters are properly installed according to manufacturer's instructions.
  • Blank is properly positioned and loaded in machine.
  • Stock is firmly held by feed mechanism.
  • Stock is fed in a smooth continuous motion past heads.
  • Feed mechanism and work piece are held clear from cutters and hold-downs during positioning.
  • Operator clears machine and cleans work area after operation.
  • Required OSHA approved personal protective equipment is worn.
  • Lock-out/Tag-out procedure is in place and followed.
  • Process is completed in a timely manner.

Pre-Operation Checklist

Level 1

Performance Standard -
  • Verifies Machine is properly guarded.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of proper use of all machine specific controls.
  • Verifies heads are powered up and rotating correctly.
  • Verifies settings correspond to location(s) of tenoning operation on workpiece.
  • Verifies dust collection operable/operating.
  • Adjusts and locks elements before starting machine.

Level 2

Performance Standard -
  • Loads appropriate CNC program.
  • Adjusts position of heads.
  • Adjust for thickness and width.
  • Adjusts position of feed mechanism.
  • Adjusts tension on clamping system.
  • Meets Level 1 performance standard.

5.6.1 - Tenoning

Level 1

Given a blank machined and ready for tenon, and a minimum of 45 mm x 45 mm (1.75" x 1.75") and 300 mm (12") long, and a pre-set machine, produce tenons to a specified length, width, and thickness.
Performance Standard -
  • Shaped surface exhibits a uniform smoothness, with no burning or hesitation marks
  • Shaped surface is free of snipe and tear out
  • Tenon is consistent along entire surface, with no visible variation
  • Dimension tolerance is +0.0/-0.4 mm (1/64") [0.0156"] to the required length.
  • Dimension tolerance is ±0.25 mm (1/96") [0.010"] in width and thickness.
  • Machined surfaces exhibit uniform mill marks with no machine burn marks.
  • Cut is free of chipping.

Level 2

Given a blank machined and ready for tenon, and a minimum of 45 mm x 45 mm (1.75" x 1.75") and 300 mm (12") long, and a machine with cut-off saw and cutters correctly installed, adjust cutting heads and feed mechanism to produce a tenon to fit a prepared sample of a matching mortise.
Performance Standard -
  • Meets Level 1 performance standard.
